More than a destination.
A journey through Langtang.
The Langtang Valley group trek climbs from Syabrubesi through forest of oak and rhododendron to the yak pastures of Kyanjin Gompa in six walking days. It is the closest high valley to Kathmandu and the one that rewards a shorter holiday best.
The village of Langtang was buried in the 2015 earthquake and rebuilt by the families who lived there; every lodge you sleep in is theirs. From Kyanjin, Tserko Ri gives a 360-degree view for a five-hour round trip.

Travel information
Best time to visit
March to May and October to November. Langtang is also one of the better winter treks: December and January are cold at Kyanjin but usually dry and clear.
Difficulty & fitness
Grade 3. Walking days are 4–6 hours on good trails, with 500–700 m of daily ascent. Tserko Ri is optional and the only day above 4,000 m.
Accessibility & dietary needs
Lodge menus cover vegetarian and vegan well. Not suitable for mobility-impaired travellers; Kyanjin has a helipad for private return flights.
Health & safety
The itinerary follows the standard rule of no more than 500 m sleeping-altitude gain per day above 3,000 m, with dedicated rest days. Your guide checks oxygen saturation each evening and carries a first-aid kit. Helicopter evacuation is arranged through your insurer; carry the policy number with you. Drink treated or boiled water only.
Local etiquette
Tamang villages are Buddhist: pass mani walls on the left. The Langtang memorial is a place of mourning; keep voices low and ask before photographing.
Travel documents & permits
Passport valid six months beyond your return date. Nepal issues a visa on arrival at Kathmandu airport (USD 50 for 30 days, cash or card). We arrange the trekking permits and park entry cards and hand them to your guide before the first walking day.

Questions about this trip
Is the Langtang Valley Group Trek a good first Himalayan trek?
Yes. Six walking days on well-made trails, one optional high day and lodges the whole way make it the trek we recommend most to first-timers with ten days to spare.
How high does the Langtang Valley Group Trek go?
Kyanjin Gompa, the highest overnight, is 3,870 m. The optional Tserko Ri climb reaches 4,984 m and returns to Kyanjin the same day.
Is Langtang safe to trek after the 2015 earthquake?
Yes. The valley reopened in 2016, the trail was rebuilt away from the slide zone and every lodge is new. Your trekking fees go directly to families who rebuilt the village.
How long is the drive to Syabrubesi for the Langtang trek?
Around seven hours from Kathmandu in a private jeep, on a road that is paved to Dhunche and rough beyond. We break it with a lunch stop and leave early to arrive in daylight.
What is the group size on the Langtang Valley trek?
Four to twelve, with one guide per four trekkers and a porter shared between two.
Can I do the Langtang trek in winter?
Yes. December and January departures run when we have four bookings; nights at Kyanjin fall to −10 °C but days are usually clear and the trail is quiet.
Reviews
★★★★★
Short, high and beautiful
Ten days was exactly right. Tserko Ri sunrise was the highlight and the cheese at Kyanjin is real. Our guide Dawa was from the valley and that mattered.
★★★★★
Perfect for a first trek
I had never been above 3,000 m. The pace was kind and the group of seven felt like friends by day three.
