The festival was extraordinary

Jambay Lhakhang Drup at night with the fire dance and the whole village there. Bumthang felt like the real Bhutan. Long drives, but the guide filled them with stories.

Phobjikha cranes and Bumthang temples

We saw the black-necked cranes arrive. Kurjey Lhakhang was quiet and beautiful. Good hotels throughout.

Camping done properly

Hot tea delivered to the tent every morning, three-course dinners and lakes you could drink from. Labana La view was the best of the trip.

Right level of challenge

First day is a real climb, then it eases. Six of us, all different ages, all finished happy.

Effortless

Everything from visa to meals was arranged; we just showed up at Paro. Ten in the group, good mix of ages.

Every day had something

Punakha dzong in the morning light and the Tiger's Nest on the last day. Our guide Kinley's knowledge of the Buddhist stories made it come alive.

Ideal short Tibet trip

Four nights in the same hotel, no long drives, and Sera's debates were the surprise highlight. Our guide had answers for everything.

Ganden was the standout

Lhasa is busy but Ganden's kora had almost nobody on it. Good pacing for the altitude.

Well planned acclimatisation

The two nights before Mansarovar made the difference for my parents. Nobody in our group of ten had a serious problem.

A lifetime's wish, well looked after

The kitchen team fed us hot vegetarian food even at Dirapuk. On the Drolma La the sherpas were with us every step. Om Namah Shivaya.

Smoothly handled permits

I was nervous about Tibet paperwork. It all just arrived. Lhasa deserves the three days.

Everest from the other side

Seeing the north face from Rongbuk in the evening light was worth every kilometre of driving. Our guide Tenzin explained the monasteries without rushing us.

Perfect for a first trek

I had never been above 3,000 m. The pace was kind and the group of seven felt like friends by day three.

Short, high and beautiful

Ten days was exactly right. Tserko Ri sunrise was the highlight and the cheese at Kyanjin is real. Our guide Dawa was from the valley and that mattered.

A proper journey

The change from jungle to desert over two weeks is unreal. Ice Lake day nearly finished me but it made the pass feel easy. Great group, great guides.

Organised without being rigid

We had a slow walker and the guides never made it an issue. Jomsom flight worked first time. Pokhara at the end was a lovely way to finish.

Well organised, small group

Eight of us, two guides, and the rest days made all the difference. The lodges were simple but warm. Would book again for Annapurna.

Best two weeks of my year

Our guide Pasang read the group perfectly — he split us into two paces on the Namche hill and nobody felt rushed. Kala Patthar at dawn with the whole group up there is something I'll keep for a long time.
